Martin Lisius is a veteran of photography with works produced in both motion and still formats. He has produced and directed many of the projects he photographed for television and film.
Martin Lisius is best known for the dramatic images he has captured as a result of his passion for storms. He is a veteran storm chaser and founder of StormStock, a stock footage library specializing in the acquisition and licensing of storm footage to film and TV producers worldwide.
Storm footage shot by Mr. Lisius, including tornadoes, lightning, and severe thunderstorms, is represented exclusively by StormStock.

Violent South Dakota Tornado First-Ever Captured on 35mm Motion Picture Film

Prairie Pictures' cinematographer and storm chaser Martin Lisius (top left) photographed the first-ever violent class tornado on 35 mm motion picture film when he intercepted the large tornado at Spencer, South Dakota on May 30, 1998. The nearly mile-wide killer tornado devastated most of the town causing F4 damage. Tornadoes with intensity ratings of F4 and F5 on the Fujita Scale are classified as violent.
Mr. Lisius photographed the powerful tornado using an Arriflex 35-3 and Eastman Kodak Vision 250D (5246). Additional images, along with audio, were captured on Betacam SP video.
