StormStock Provides Footage for European Feature "Clouds"

ARLINGTON, Texas - Prairie Pictures recently collaborated with Man's Films Productions of Brussels, Belgium to provide 35mm imagery for their new feature film "Clouds." The film's director, Marion Hansel, selected images from Prairie's StormStock library.

Martin Lisius, Prairie Pictures cinematographer and StormStock founder, delivered negatives directly to the Duboicolor lab in Boulogne, France where they were carefully scanned at 2K resolution using their Spirit Datacine. "I was really impressed with the work being performed at Duboicolor," said Martin Lisius. "While there, I was able to see our 35mm footage scanned at 2K and then projected directly from a hard drive in a screening theater. The quality was spectacular. It was hard to believe that the light striking the screen was not passing through film. The advantage to this kind of projection is the total lack of dirt and spots that we've become accustomed to seeing in theaters," he said.

Lisius photographed all of the StormStock footage utilized in "Clouds" while tracking storms across Tornado Alley. The film's director, Marion Hansel, selected numerous images including the rare 35mm tornado footage Lisius shot in South Dakota in 1998. "Working with Martin was very efficient and pleasant," she said. "After an intensive research for images of tornadoes, hurricanes and storms that I couldn't film myself, it was clear that Martin's images in 35 mm were the best. The negotiations and his understanding that we needed access to the original 35 mm negative was easy and everything went well when he came to Paris."
